"Primary schools in Bath and North East Somerset could soon be enjoying fresher, more seasonal food at lunchtimes. The council, which currently supplies a large number of schools with meals, has collaborated with Bristol-based Fresh Range to pilot a scheme where smaller, independent local producers are given the chance to supply produce. The benefits of this are, obviously, pretty plentiful: as well as the children being given fresh, home-grown food, the local economy is bound to get a boost, and the consolidation of orders means fewer delivery drops and so a reduction in the service’s carbon footprint.
