5 New Year's Resolutions to Help you Say Goodbye to The Supermarket Shelf in 2016 28/12/2015, Health & Lifestyle
With the Christmas festivities done and dusted, it's the time of year that many of us start thinking about our New Year's resolutions. If you're looking to make 2016 a year of better, more nutritious, and more sustainable eating, here are 5 achievable steps to help you make your resolution a reality.
i. Choose at least 1 local fruit or vegetable to add to your fresh-range trolley each week, and try something new if you can. Browse our range of over 200 fruits, vegetables and salads for inspiration. We’re passionate about local fruit, veg and salad because it’s fresher – it can taste so much better as well as being richer in nutritional content. Look out for the ‘fresh-range stamp’ to easily identify our locally sourced produce.
ii .Choose high welfare, grass fed local meats. There is evidence to suggest the meat from animals (like cows) that spend the majority of their time outdoors, grazing on pasture, is better for you than that from animals which are kept indoors, eating grain and other supplemented feeds. Choosing free-range meat is better for the animals, better for the planet, and better for us.
iii. Choose a fresh oily fish to add to your fresh-range trolley at least once a week. Fish like salmon and mackerel are rich in essential Omega 3 fatty acids, said to improve cognitive function and reduce the risk of diabetes and heart disease. Our fish are as fresh as can be, as we ensure they get from port to plate in 24 hours. A very different product to what you can buy in the supermarkets – guaranteed.
iv. Choose organic where you can. Multiple studies indicate organic food has a higher nutritional value – better for us. The absence of harmful pesticides in the growth of organic foods means it is widely accepted as good for the local wildlife where it is produced – better for the environment. We are proud of our affordable organic prices, and you can save up to 50% on supermarket prices. Use our organic filter (tick box on the left hand side just below the category menu) to browse the hundreds of organic products on the fresh-range store.
v. Choose savings – tell us the supermarket you most regularly shop with in your account details, and fresh-range will automatically show you all the local food that costs less than your supermarket as you browse the store. You can save £££s a week off your food shopping by choosing the local foods that cost less than your supermarket.
Wishing you a happy New Year from all of us at fresh-range HQ!
